Walking in Wise and Pure Love (Romans 16:19, NLT)

“But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong.”
This instruction gives us a clear picture of what godly love should look like—intentional, discerning, and pure.
Christian love is not careless or impulsive; it is rooted in wisdom. To be wise in doing right means we actively choose what reflects God’s nature in our daily lives. Love, therefore, is not just a feeling but a decision, one that consistently aligns with truth, righteousness, and grace. It calls us to respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally.
At the same time, we are called to “stay innocent of any wrong.” This speaks to a heart posture that resists corruption and refuses to be shaped by evil. It is not about ignorance, but about purity—guarding our hearts so that bitterness, manipulation, or pride do not influence how we treat others. Our love should remain clean, sincere, and Christ-centered.
This kind of love creates a healthy and thriving community. When believers choose wisdom in doing right and maintain purity in their intentions, relationships become safe spaces for growth. Offenses are handled with grace, unity is preserved, and the love of Christ becomes evident to all.
However, this standard of love does not happen by chance. It requires intentional spiritual growth—through prayer, studying the Word, and yielding to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As we grow, our love matures, becoming more reflective of Christ and less influenced by the patterns of the world.
On this Love Wednesday, let us commit to loving with both wisdom and purity. May our lives reflect a love that honors God, uplifts others, and stands as a testimony of His transforming power in us.
