Love Wednesday: Inviting Jesus in the right capacity.

ree

John 2:5 “Whatever He asks you to do, do it.”

Just as Jesus had been invited to a banquet, that is how we invite Jesus into our lives. However, the owner of the wedding ceremony did not know Jesus as a divine being (100% God and 100% human). He invited Jesus only in the capacity to which he knew Him. The invitation was not to save him from the imminent shame that was coming which is certainly a situation he eventually found himself in.

So, when trouble came and the wine ran out, Jesus was not inclined to act, not only because He had not been invited in that capacity, but also because His hour had not yet come.

I need to think about this: when the wine ran out, Mary who was also an invitee saw what had happened and knew exactly what to do. She knew who could help, and she went directly to Jesus for assistance. This was because she knew the child she had given birth to. Over the years, the actions and inactions of Jesus were not lost on her. She knew what Jesus was capable of, and even though she had no understanding of how important timing was in Jesus’ life and ministry (which eventually became His purpose), she asked nevertheless.

Mary’s act of faith (asking and leaving everything in His hands) moved Jesus to action. He did the inconceivable and the unimaginable: He brought out the best wine from the least expected source.

This shows that Jesus can be present, and yet things can still go wrong. His presence alone did not stop the wine from running out. But upon being asked, and when His instructions were obeyed, He stepped in and saved the situation.

There became an overflow of wine with an even better quality than that which had first been served. Obeying God in key.

I pray that as this year runs out, you won’t lose this key in Jesus name. Amen

You are Favored.

You are preserved.

We love you.

God bless you.
