Love Wednesday: Resting in ABBA's Love.

Love Wednesday: The Power of Love in Psalms 18
Love Wednesday: The Power of Love in Psalms 18

Love is not just an emotion; it is a force. It is a shield, a fortress, and a place of refuge. This is the heart of Psalm 18, a psalm of victory, where David pours out his gratitude to ABBA for His unfailing love and mighty deliverance.

David’s journey was filled with battles, betrayals, and moments of deep despair. Yet, in the midst of it all, he knew one thing for sure—ABBA’s love was his anchor. He begins this psalm with a declaration that is both intimate and powerful: “I love you, Lord, my strength.” This is not just a passive love; it is a love that recognizes that God is the very source of life and victory.

The Love That Rescues

Psalm 18 paints a vivid picture of God’s love in action. In verses 16-19, we see a dramatic rescue:

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me;

he drew me out of deep waters.

He rescued me from my powerful enemy,

from my foes, who were too strong for me.

They confronted me in the day of my disaster,

but the Lord was my support.

He brought me out into a spacious place;

he rescued me because he delighted in me.”

What a powerful reminder that ABBA’s love does not leave us stranded in the depths of life’s troubles. His love reaches down, rescues, and restores. It is not a love that watches from a distance but one that actively intervenes. No matter how deep the waters or how fierce the enemy, His love is stronger.

The Love That Strengthens

David calls ABBA his rock, fortress, deliverer, shield, and stronghold (Psalm 18:2). Love is not just soft and tender—it is also strong and unshakable. This means that when we love ABBA, we are not left vulnerable. His love equips us with strength to face life’s battles.

“With your help I can advance against a troop;

with my God I can scale a wall.” — Psalm 18:29

True love empowers. When we abide in the love of ABBA, we gain courage to break barriers, strength to overcome obstacles, and the faith to keep moving forward. His love does not weaken us—it makes us warriors.

The Love That Rewards

“To the faithful you show yourself faithful,

to the blameless you show yourself blameless,

to the pure you show yourself pure,

but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.” — Psalm 18:25-26

ABBA’s love is not random; it responds to those who walk in faithfulness. David reminds us that when we love ABBA with sincerity, He reveals His love in even greater ways. His love rewards, not as a transaction, but as a covenant.

A Love That Never Fails

David ends this psalm with a final declaration of God’s faithfulness:

“He gives his king great victories;

he shows unfailing love to his anointed,

to David and to his descendants forever.” — Psalm 18:50

The love of ABBA is not seasonal or temporary. It is a covenant love, one that spans generations. If you ever doubt whether ABBA still sees you, whether He still loves you, let Psalm 18 be your reassurance: His love is unfailing.

A Love to Rest In

As we reflect this Love Wednesday, let Psalm 18 be a reminder that we are never without love. The world may fail us, people may disappoint us, but ABBA’s love is our fortress. Rest in His love today—He is reaching out, He is strengthening you, and He is calling you into deeper trust.
