Love Wednesday: Seeing through the lens of Mercy.

Updated: Jan 22

Mercy is an extraordinary attribute of God that transforms situations and softens even the hardest of hearts. It allows us to see from a divine perspective, giving us access to God’s compassionate intervention where human judgment may fail us. As we reflect on this, let us delve into the stories of Esau and Jacob, and that of Jacob’s sons and Shechem, the man who wronged their sister, Dinah.

Jacob, in his lifetime, experienced the unfathomable mercy of God. After deceiving his brother Esau and fleeing for his life, Jacob faced the daunting task of meeting Esau years later. By all accounts, Esau had every reason to retaliate. Yet, through the mercy of God, Esau’s heart was softened. Instead of vengeance, he welcomed Jacob with open arms, embracing him genuinely (Genesis 33:4). This was not just reconciliation—it was a testament to how God’s mercy can turn even the most strained relationships into peaceful ones.

On the other hand, we see the story of Shechem, who defiled Dinah, Jacob’s daughter (Genesis 34). Jacob’s sons, filled with anger, acted without mercy, deceiving Shechem and his household into a false agreement, only to avenge their sister by destroying the city. This stark contrast highlights the essence of mercy: while Jacob received divine intervention and peace, Shechem faced judgment from men who would not spare him.

The difference between these two outcomes underscores the critical nature of mercy. Without God’s mercy, human retaliation can lead to devastating consequences. But with mercy, even our wrongdoings can be met with divine grace and restoration.

As we continue in this season of prayer, focusing on the prayers of mercy, let this be a time of surrender. Whether you’re facing offence, guilt, or uncertainty, cry out to ABBA. His mercy is not just for forgiveness—it’s for transformation, restoration, and new beginnings.

We are praying that the Lord will indeed be merciful to you and your household in this season. May His mercy go before you, open doors, soften hearts, and turn situations around for your good.

“Through the Lord’s mercies, we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23

In this Love Wednesday, lean into the mercy of God. It is vast, enduring, and life-changing. And today, may His mercy cover you like never before, in Jesus’ name.
