Love Wednesday: THE RIGHT HEART.

ree

In our world today, it is easy to become distracted by outward appearances—religious activity, service, church attendance, or moral behavior. But from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible consistently reveals that God is not primarily concerned with the external, but with the internal. He searches hearts, not habits. He longs for worship in spirit and truth, not performance or pretension. At the core of the gospel message lies a profound truth: God desires the right heart.

The “heart” in general represents the core of who we are—the seat of our emotions, will, desires, and decisions. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” The condition of our heart determines the direction of our life. Jesus emphasized this repeatedly, pointing out that it’s not what enters a person that defiles them, but what flows out from the heart (Mark 7:20–23).

So what is the right heart before God? It is not a perfect heart, but a surrendered one. Not a proud heart, but a broken and contrite one. Not a heart full of religious knowledge, but one burning with love for Christ.

We all stumble, sin, and fall short. But the difference between a hardened heart and a right heart lies in its response to sin. When the right heart sins, it grieves. It confesses. It turns back. This is something king David excelled at and it earned him a place on Gods good book.

The right heart is not manufactured by human effort (by your wish to stay holy) —it is a gift of grace, shaped daily by communion with God. It beats with love for Christ, aches over sin, hungers for righteousness, and rests in grace. It’s not always flashy, but it is faithful. Not always noticed, but always known by God.

In a world that judges by appearances, may we be a people after God’s own heart in Jesus name. Amen
