OUR SPEECH AND INTIMACY

Love Wednesday
Love Wednesday

In the Bible, we see that words are never neutral. They either carry life or invite consequences. A striking example is the servant who came to David claiming he killed King Saul. His words were bold and opportunistic, but they were a lie. Those very words became the evidence against him, and they landed him in trouble when King David ordered his death(2 Samuel 1). What he spoke, sealed his fate.

This story reminds us that careless or dishonest speech can cost us more than we imagine. Sometimes we speak to impress, to protect ourselves, or to gain favor—yet words spoken without truth and wisdom can quickly turn into traps. The mouth can become a snare when it is not governed by reverence for God, and it won’t be governed by God without intimacy.

That is why Paul exhorted us in Ephesians 4:29 “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”

The truth is, the more we cultivate intimacy with God, the more our words will reflect His character. When we’re rooted in His love and truth, our speech naturally overflows with kindness, wisdom, and grace. It’s not about striving for perfection but about surrendering our words to Him.

As we abide in Christ, His Spirit guides our tongues, empowering us to speak life, truth, and encouragement into the world around us. So, let’s draw near to God, and let His presence shape our words, transforming us into agents of love and light in the world as Jesus rightly called us in Matthew.
