The story of Ruth teaches us that true intimacy begins with God. Intimacy is formed in a heart that chooses to follow the Lord wholeheartedly. Biblical intimacy is not emotional attachment but a covenant decision to walk closely with God in faith and obedience.
Ruth’s words in Ruth 1:16 “But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”
Ruth” — reveal a deep spiritual surrender. Though spoken to Naomi, they marked Ruth’s personal commitment to the God of Israel. Intimacy with God begins when we choose Him above familiarity, comfort, and personal gain.
Ruth left behind her land, her past, and her former identity to follow God into the unknown. In the same way, intimacy with God often requires separation from old ways and divided loyalties. Drawing close to God means trusting Him even when the path ahead is unclear.
Her faithfulness in daily obedience—working diligently, honoring Naomi’s godly counsel, and living according to God’s law—shows us how intimacy with God is sustained. Intimacy grows not only in moments of prayer, but in consistent, humble obedience to God’s Word.
Because Ruth clung to God, she encountered redemption. Her story points us to Christ, our Redeemer, who covers and restores those who draw near to Him. Intimacy with God positions us to experience His provision, protection, and grace.
This Love Wednesday, we are reminded that intimacy with God is a covenant walk—one that declares, “Lord, wherever You go, I will go.” May our hearts cling to Him daily, trusting that those who draw near to God will never walk alone.
