Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof.” — Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NLT)
Today, as we stand at the very end of the year, this scripture speaks louder than ever. Along the way this year, there may have been moments of confusion, delay, or pain. Yet God reminds us that the value of a season is not judged by how it began, but by how it ends in Him.
The New Living Translation continues, “Patience is better than pride” (Ecclesiastes 7:8). This year may have taught us patience in ways we didn’t ask for. Waiting, enduring, and trusting God through unfinished prayers has shaped us more deeply than quick victories ever could.
God is faithful to complete what He starts. “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished” (Philippians 1:6). God has still been at work within us—forming character, strengthening faith, and refining purpose.
As one year closes and another waits to begin, we remember that God orders our times and seasons. “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). This ending is not random; it is intentional.
So today, we release the year into God’s hands with gratitude and trust. What God allows to end, He does so with purpose—and with Him, the end of this year is better, because it prepares us for a new beginning filled with hope, wisdom, and grace.
