THE ORIGINAL LOVE

Love is one of the deepest desires of the human heart, yet its true origin is sometimes forgotten. Before there were relationships, friendships, or families, love already existed - in its most perfect and most complete form - in God. The Bible makes this clear in 1 John 4:19: “We love because He first loved us.”

This verse reminds us that love didn’t begin with us; it began with Him. God’s love is not a reaction to our goodness. It came first before we ever knew Him, before we took our first breath, and even before the world was formed. His love is the original love, the foundation upon which all true love stands.

When John says, “He first loved us,” it means God initiated everything. He made the first move, not waiting for us to be perfect or worthy. His love is not based on what we do; it flows from who He is. And because He loved us first, we now have the capacity to love Him and others. Without His love, our own expressions of love would be incomplete.

Understanding this changes everything. It means you are not striving for love, you are rather responding to love. It means your worth is not in what people think of you, but in the fact that God loved you first and continues to love you unconditionally.

So if you’ve ever wondered where real love begins, the answer is simple: it starts with God. His love is the origin, the blueprint, and the unshakable truth that makes every other form of love possible. We love today because He loved us first.
