THE VALUE OF INTIMACY

Acts 1:4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before"

This passage tells us that Jesus, before ascending, commanded His disciples not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the Father’s promise. This instruction wasn’t about delay; it was about priority. Jesus wanted them to understand that intimacy with God must come before activity for God.

Even though the disciples had walked with Jesus, witnessed miracles, and received instructions for the mission ahead, He still emphasized waiting in God’s presence. Knowledge, experience, and zeal were not enough. What they needed most was deep fellowship with the Father, sustained by the Holy Spirit.

Waiting required trust. It meant resisting the urge to rush into purpose without power. In that waiting, the disciples learned dependence—learning that intimacy with God is not inactive, and it requires obedience.

Jesus understood that public impact flows from private communion. Before preaching to nations, they had to learn how to dwell with God. Intimacy births clarity, strength, and alignment. Without it, ministry becomes noise and effort becomes exhaustion.

This same call echoes to us today. God is not just interested in what we do for Him, but in how deeply we know Him. Intimacy is where our motives are purified and our hearts are anchored, even when the assignment feels heavy.

May we recieve the grace to pause, to wait, and to value God’s presence above movement. When we learn to stay with Him, we discover that power, direction, and purpose are released naturally from intimacy.
